Fix: The Best Offense.

Reposting because WordPress went all funky on me.

To the self-professed good Christian who is getting his/her panties in a wad about what is said of your religion on social networks:

Get over it. Seriously. Saying you take offense to something is a nice, polite way to say “Shut the fuck up.”

The truth is I’d like to shut up, I really would, but you know what? I and others like me wouldn’t have to spew at all if more of YOU – the Christians who understand and live what Christ intended – spoke out against the racist, homophobic, intolerant squeaky wheels who continually give YOU a bad name in the press, online, at my front door on a Saturday morning, and just about anywhere else these days.

THIS is what the rabble, the loudest among you, represent Christianity to be:

And THIS:

And THIS:

And THIS:

These people claim to represent Christ himself. Wouldn’t we all be better off if everyone who understands the tenets of the Christian faith – that Jesus spoke of love, tolerance, and decency – spoke up when faced with hate, prejudice, and non-Christian behavior?

But Diva, what can I do?

Stand up for Jesus. Speak out when anyone in your vicinity says or does anything against your fellow human being. Defend those who are hated for no more than their orientation, skin color, or having a different faith. Doing so will help weed out the pseudo-Christians in your life and eventually, if enough of you do it regularly, they’ll be relegated to background noise.

Also, stop and think about what you comment or share on the social networks by asking this one, very simple question before hitting the Return key:

“How does this promote Christ’s love?”

If it doesn’t … I think you know the answer.

Silence is compliance.
