Men’s Men.

The following two items appeared on my Facebook news feed today, each from folks who (to the best of my knowledge) don’t actually know each other.

A woman is a man’s best friend and will never stand him up or never let him down. She’ll reassure him when he feels insecure and inspire him to do things he never thought he could do without fear or regret. She’ll make sure he knows he’s the most handsome, confident, sexy, seductive and invincible man in the room and … No wait…Sorry. I’m thinking of whiskey. Whiskey does all that. Never mind.

(Shout out to RR and RD for that one.)

(That’s from Denver’s favorite curmudgeon, Delta Bravo.)

I laughed aloud at these things, but there is still a part of me that was heartened by a potential hidden meaning: Dare I hope that men – real men – might actually make the comeback I predicted five years ago?

Oh, wait … I forgot that hope is the bane of human existence.

“Desire is suffering,” sayeth the Buddha.
