Bring Back Indie 101.5!

Posted in WhatNot on August 31st, 2009

Please click here to sign a petition if you, like me, would love to have Indie 101.5 back on the air in Denver.

It was the ONLY radio station I’d listened to in my car since the advent of portable CD players, so of course it was yanked off the air a little while ago and is now a conservative talk radio station. *le sigh*

Bring it back, dammit!

Waitin’ Around to Die.

I keep saying it, but he really was one of the best songwriters in history.

Think I’m gonna order another CD today.

What’s awesome about this is it’s directed by Eric Wareheim (of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!), but unlike their Adult Swim show, I don’t completely hate it.

Maybe it’s because neither Tim nor Eric are in it. Maybe it’s the music. Maybe it’s the soft core porn between two people who are not Hollywood super models.

By the way, the video is not safe for work and not recommended to easily-offended minds. (Just makes you want to see it faster, don’t it?)

Oh, you interwebz - you so crazy!

TABC Firings Over Rainbow Lounge Raid.

Posted in WhatNot on August 28th, 2009

I wrote about the 40th anniversary of Stonewall in June and the post included a link to a story about a Dallas-area gay bar, the Rainbow Lounge, which was raided during this year’s celebrations.

Well, chalk one up for Texas doing the right thing: They fired three people, put another on probation, and transferred another out to a different jurisdiction.

So, what did the raid accomplish with this obvious harassment? Absolutely nothing.

The gay rights movement was born out of the Stonewall riots and the recent incident in Texas has resulted in more local people getting involved in gay rights activism. If you’d like to keep up or get involved yourself, here’s the Facebook page dedicated to the raid itself.

There’s even a YouTube video of George Takei condemning the raid.

Dragon*Con 2009.

Posted in WhatNot on August 27th, 2009

I still haven’t written about the Euro trip - though some of the photos are now posted on Facebook and MySpace - and the pocket program for this year’s geek fest is now available. They’ve also made The Daily Dragon updates available on the web, so we can check out the changes on our phones.

Looks like between school, work, and pouring over the four-day schedule of nerdy festivities, there won’t be much time to write before we head to Hotlanta next week.

On the bright side: It’s DRAGON*CON time!

He Took Me to Paris.

Posted in SoForth on August 25th, 2009

When the ugly head of jealousy rears
I remember

He took me to Paris
He showed me Amsterdam

We didn’t want to kill each other
In the tiny hotel rooms,
On the compact trains
No matter what the stress(es)

We were happy
And would do it again

He took me to Paris

London

Beijing

Montreal

Wherever I want to go
Whatever I want to do

He took me to Paris
And we both know

I will follow him anywhere

We may actually be in town this year, which makes me happy.

Also, Deathwish is Friday, September 11th at Tracks Nightclub. The theme this time is Lost Boys/Girls and vampires (or people dressed as such) get in free before 10:00 or 10:30 (I forget which).

PLUS: Revco (aka Revolting Cocks) will be at the Gothic Theatre on Sunday, September 13th. Get your tickets now, kids, because this one will sell out.

What a welcome back from Dragon*Con!

My Arteries Just Exploded.

Simply by looking at the monstrosity called The Burger Explosion.

I can’t imagine eating one, even if all the ingredients are actually on the diet.

My left arm tingles.

Lady Gaga: Illuminati Puppet.

Posted in It's a Conspiracy! on August 21st, 2009

Anyone who has either run an all-volunteer organization or worked for a non-profit will tell you that the Illuminati - the worldwide conspiracy - doesn’t exist.

People who have done these jobs know that you can’t get more than three people to agree on any course of action, let alone how to run the global banking system, start/end wars, or other puppetry the Illuminati are regularly accused of doing. Human nature doesn’t allow for it. Someone, somewhere always gets the idea they can do the job better or more efficiently, or they get a hankering for more power, or they leak information or evidence … somehow it all comes crashing down eventually.

That being said, I brush off anyone who accuses the Illuminati of the big stuff, because it’s just not feasible. However, I simply adore the people who accuse the Illuminati of the most mundane, silly actions. For instance, that of the title of this very post.

I don’t like Lady Gaga’s music much, but Illuminati puppet? Wow. I’m going to go out on a limb myself here, but could it just be - and this is completely hypothetical - that she incorporates some of the symbols she’s seen into her persona and style? If not, you’re giving the woman an awful lot of credit. I mean she doesn’t strike me as the brightest bulb and her music certainly isn’t intelligent, either.

Besides, there are those that claim Lady Gaga stole her style from Irish pop star Roisin Murphy. So maybe Roisin Murphy is the real marionette?

Or you know, you could be … How can I put this? … Wrong.

If the Illuminati existed, I wouldn’t be talking to you. I’d be out trying to join them. (Robert Anton Wilson)

English As She is Spoke.

Posted in WhatNot on August 19th, 2009

To go with an old post of mine on mispronounced words, here’s a great primer on some of the English language’s most misused words. Just in time for the Fall term, no less.

And if you’re a language junkie like me, check out the book English As She is Spoke someday. It’s available at the McSweeneys Store.

I have mind to vomit.
