Edward Scissorhands: The Musical.

Posted in WhatNot on November 30th, 2006

The Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles is set to show that very stage production December 12th through 31st.

I just watched the short film on the theatre site and it doesn’t look as bad as it could be … I believe it was saved by the fact it’s a choreographed musical, not a singing one. What a mess it would have been with some Andrew Lloyd-Webber music and lyrics. *shiver*

I hope this will become the new Nutcracker. I wonder if anyone out there is working to bring Labyrinth to the stage … ?

Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered … yadda yadda yadda.

Dull-uth.

I’m a little under the weather and have been for about a week. I’m taking echinacea/golden seal, extra vitamin C, lysine, and zinc, plus irrigating my sinuses with hot salt water twice a day, and it is really helping to keep the cold at bay. In fact, the worst I’ve suffered was last night, when I went to bed early at 9:00pm with the cutest little, tiny, almost-non-existent-except-when-I-sniffed sinus headache.

Hence, I’m not sick enough to not work, but I do need to stay out of the cold weather. That means no trips to the gym or daily errand-running for me, especially today when the high temp in Denver was in the 20’s. It also means no drinking, as that will happily knock my immune system on its ass.

So I was bitching about the weather a little earlier and then it occurred to me that my love is headed to Duluth, Minnesota for a business meeting tomorrow. Duluth. Minnesota. Land of winter. Border to the Great White North, with only a chain link fence to keep the Canadian winds out.

So, I checked and the high tomorrow in Duluth will be 18 degrees. Suddenly, I felt a lot better.

However, before I could enjoy my Schadenfreude, my period started.

Curse you, instant karma! Bless you, Advil!

It was a pretty good movie, even with Jim Carrey. But now, it looks like the premise may be for real.

I wouldn’t do it. Would you?

… klahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plain!

Okay, well, YOU try driving through that state and not getting the Broadway show’s title song stuck in your head. Especially late at night, with a case of the flu licking at your heels, a thick fog in front of the car, and a 4-day sleep cycle interrupted by daily overeating and nightly heartburn.

Swear to [favorite deity’s name here], I am fasting for the next week. Seriously. There is something about the mother-in-love’s house that makes food leap into my mouth - because I certainly didn’t put it there - until I’m bloated and immobile. I manage, repeatedly, to eat myself sick when we’re there, but we not only had Thanksgiving this time around, we also had her birthday party on Saturday night.

So there were two full nights of celebration filled with food and drink plus the fantastic Dallas restaurants and bars we usually frequent when we visit.

So, yeah. Fasting. Started this afternoon, when we got home. We had to rush the trip to beat the winter storm headed into Denver tonight.

Snow + lack of food in the house = happy recovery from weekend.

Here We Go Again.

Driving from Denver to Dallas for Thanksgiving.

At least this time we know a route through Raton, NM which is just as fast as driving through Kansas and Oklahoma. It is also a LOT more scenic.

Of course, now that I’ve jinxed it, we’ll be stranded in snow between Clayton, NM and Dalhart, TX.

Couldn’t be worse than Okmulgee, OK by any stretch.

Holiday Party & Toy Drive.

On Friday, December 1st, Isadore Gallery will host a Holiday Party & Toy Drive. The toy drive is in cooperation with the Denver chapter of Goth Help Us.

Information on the event will be posted to the gallery website in the coming days. For details on Goth Help Us, who has chapters all over the US and abroad, check their website.

Special thanks to Meredith for taking on the Denver chapter duties for those of us who’d like to help locally.

The snowball will start rolling down the hill eventually.

Oh, Mr. Carrey.
