I am a huge fan of Kitchen Nightmares (BBC & USA) and Gordon Ramsey in general.
After watching this episode, I knew these people were in for it.
Especially because of their rants aimed at Yelp & other restaurant/review sites. Which by the way had been going on long before they decided to sign up to do a “Kitchen Nightmares” episode.
My jaw dropped several times while watching this particular show. (Amy & Samy are not rational people in any way, shape or form.)
It has been most enjoyable to read their FaceBook page. Lots of “haters”, but a ton of great comedy too.

I’ve been working on my active listening skills lately. Active listening requires the listener to consciously stop formulating a response before the speaker is finished speaking in order to hear and comprehend everything that is said so that, when it is the listener’s turn to speak, they might actually understand what has been said and can respond appropriately.

It’s actually quite hard to do.

It’s sad that, when given the time and opportunity to be still and read a person’s thoughts thoroughly before responding, we still can’t actively listen.

Personal Gratification is so much easier and more fulfilling than External Gratification. And arranging to acheive a Mutual External Gratification Feedback Loop is pretty awesome. It does take finding the right other person for the feedback exchange, though, which can be vexingly difficult!

There is no punishment suitable for this crime. None. This is…it’s devastating to read. Thank you for writing it. I’m not sure Alicia will ever get a chance to tell her story to a broad audience. But this is coming damn close.
